Through the Frames : Diary of an Immigrant
By Ali Ghaedi
This film aims to represent an Iranian perspective on international immigration to
Canada by drawing upon my own experience as an international graduate student from
Iran, as well as my conversations with other international students and immigrants. With
an Iranian passport, my journey to Canada was notably challenging. Being on a
temporary resident permit subjects me to numerous limitations and constant anxiety
because I must frequently navigate from one visa deadline to another. This film uses a
board game to symbolize the intricate phases of the immigration process. In this
analogy, immigrants face a greater power that makes decisions for them, compels them
to obey rules, and gives them random options that are often hard to cope with.
